Meet The Author

My name is Kelly Strychalski and I have always had a passion for the great outdoors. I was born and raised in Georgia, a true Georgia Peach, but it wasn’t until the past couple of years that I explored my love of freshwater fish. Growing up, I was always obsessed with learning everything I could about any organism- especially aquatic ones. When I transferred to Kennesaw State University back in 2012, I started taking the upper level biology classes the are focused on what you want. Since I was in the Environmental/Ecology track, I was lucky enough to register for Ichthyology before it filled up. Ichthyology (the study of fishes) was taught by my favorite professor, Dr. Ensign, who helped me discover my new found love of Georgia’s freshwater fishes. After I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Biology in May 2013, I was fortunate to get a job working with the Stream Survey Team at GA DNR. BEST JOB EVER- That’s all I will say.

My dream is to educate the public about all of the freshwater fishes in Georgia, one creek at a time. People need to love something before they are moved to save it, so I’m going to help them fall in love with the fish that I fell for a couple years ago. This blog is to raise awareness for the non-game species of fish that don’t get as much attention as the sport fish. Please support your local fishes and their habitats by learning as much as possible.

P.S- Please don’t litter, and please pick up trash when exploring your outdoors.
